Liverpool cruised to victory over Leeds United today. The Reds were in command throughout (well, apart from a 10 minute period in the second half). Despite the game being marred by a horror injury for Harvey Elliott we can still take some positives. Twitter has been drooling over Thiago after he dominated Leeds United.
Leeds United 0-3 Liverpool
This was always going to be a feisty contest.
Two of the old giants of the English game facing off in front of a packed crowd in the league again for the first time since 2004.
The home fans didn’t disappoint in that they were very disappointing, as expected. We’ll get to that.
Mo Salah opened the scoring in the first half after Joel Matip strode into the final third and found Trent Alexander-Arnold who in turn found the Egyptian King.
We stayed on top. Fabinho made it two in the second half when he fired home from a corner.
Then came the injury. Pascal Struijk went into the back of Harvey Elliott with a challenge which will be debated for some time.
Mo Salah’s immediate reaction told us all we needed to know. This was a horror injury.
Then came the boos and jeers from the home crowd despite the blatantly obvious severity of the issue. Despicable behaviour.
Sadio Mane took his time to find the net but find the net he did, rifling home in the 92nd minute.
Thiago v Leeds United
The Reds’ magician in the middle put in a magical shift.
Thiago dominated Leeds United with his dribbling and sharp passing.
In the end his performance was capped by an assist when he cleverly found Sadio Mane in the penalty area.
It was a display which perfectly showed just why he was brought to the club: he commands a midfield.
Fans have been lavishing praise on the Spaniard for his dominant display.
