Graeme Souness believes Harvey Elliott is ‘destined to be a star’. The Liverpool player has caused a storm already this season.
Just how good is Harvey Elliott? In terms of potential, he seems like a world-beater. It’s his current ability that’s really surprising people, however.
Liverpool added him to their first-team squad last season after his very impressive spell with Blackburn Rovers last season. While that was hardly the biggest surprise in the world, few saw Elliott playing this much so soon.
The 18-year-old came off the bench in Liverpool’s opener and then started their next two games. It’s quite an incredible display of faith from Jurgen Klopp as he left far more experienced players on the bench.
And it sounds as though Graeme Souness can completely understand that. The Liverpool legend sees a very special player in Elliott.
Souness on Harvey Elliott
“Like most people, I didn’t really know about him, and when I’ve seen him play I’ve been really impressed by him,” Souness told the Sky Sports Football Podcast.
“He has a football nous that you normally get in your mid-20s, and he’s destined to be a star with a couple of caveats.
“If he is prepared to turn up every day and learn and if he avoids injury. He looks to have absolutely everything.”
The hype around Elliott continues to grow, then. We have Souness saying he’s destined to be a star and Klopp claiming ‘the football world’ should be excited about the teenager.
And this is before Elliott has really done all that much. While he’s looked impressive over the first few games, he’s yet to provide a solid output. That’ll come, of course, and we can only imagine the hype then.
Liverpool certainly appear to have a special talent on their books.
