Jurgen Klopp believe the whole ‘football world’ should be excited about Harvey Elliott. The teenager is set for his Liverpool chance.
Jurgen Klopp believes Harvey Elliott has enough talent to excited ‘the football world’. This comes as the teenager gets ready to play in Liverpool’s first-team this season.
“He made a big step this pre-season,” said Klopp, per the Daily Mail. “If Harvey stays fit then the football world can be really excited. In pre-season we wanted to see him in a deeper role because as a young player you have to learn a lot of things.
“When you are a bit more outside [on the flank] you get the ball from time to time and we wanted him to be a bit more involved. I liked his performance during pre-season. Good for us and good for him.”
Jurgen Klopp excited for Harvey Elliott
Elliott really might be the biggest young talent Liverpool have had in some time. We’d even put him ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold at this stage – though, the Scouser would later explode into life.
We can’t exactly say Elliott ‘came through’ at Liverpool, given he played senior football for Fulham. But there’s little doubt that he’s come on even further in the last two years.
His loan spell with Blackburn Rovers was spectacular for what it was. A 17-year-old went to a midtable Championship club for his first senior season and absolutely smashed it.
Elliott, who only turned 18 in April, assisted 11 times and scored four with Rovers. Those 11 assists were good enough for third-best in the Championship – and he was comfortably younger than any competitor.
On top of that, we think Elliott’s move into midfield could prove the making of him. We expect him to move up another level there and become a fantastic player.
Overall, there’s just a lot to shout about. Elliott really might be the kind of talent that stands out on a worldwide level. There’s a long way to go before he proves that, of course, but Klopp believes he’s got the ability.
