Franck Kessie is training and should face Liverpool next week, according to reports. The Reds supposedly want to sign the AC Milan midfielder.
This comes from Corriere Dello Sport. They say Franck Kessie is back training with AC Milan and ready to face Liverpool next week.
The Ivorian is yet to play for Milan this season and has spent the campaign on the sidelines. He’s back now, though, ahead of a game with Lazio this weekend.
We imagine that will be a test for the player – and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – ahead of the UEFA Champions League game at Anfield. But there’s an extra element to all of this, of course.
Gazzetta Dello Sport claims Liverpool want to sign Kessie. His contract expires in 2022, meaning the Reds could agree a pre-contract as soon as January.
They could even try to get him for a reduced price that month. That’ll depend on Milan’s own ambitions, however.
Tuttosport says Kessie rejected around £6.5m-a-year from the Rossoneri – any Liverpool offer would likely have to top that. Next week, then, should be something of an audition.
Franck Kessie training ahead of Liverpool
Aside from the transfer reports, this is still big news for Milan. This game is a huge one for both sides as they prepare to progress from a difficult Champions League group.
We’ll likely see two strong teams at Anfield in what, quite bizarrely, will be Milan’s first appearance at the stadium. It’s a fairly historic match, then, between two of Europe’s most successful clubs.
But the points on offer are the important factor here. Liverpool know that a win is almost vital to get what they expect from this group. We imagine Milan will settle for a draw, though, given this will be arguably their toughest game.
Having Kessie back certainly helps them achieve that.
