£23m player's form should inspire Liverpool move for Karim Adeyemi

Liverpool want Karim Adeyemi, according to reports. They should watch Patson Daka closely before making any kind of move.

Bild claims that Liverpool are in the market for Karim Adeyemi. This is after a magnificent start to the season for the 19-year-old.

He’s kicked off the campaign with six goals and an assist in RB Salzburg’s opening six Bundesliga games. He grabbed another in a Champions League qualifier.

And Adeyemi even earned himself a debut for Germany this week – on which he scored again. The kid is on fire and looks like he could be a superstar with the right development.

We’ve written up a profile on Adeyemi for more information and you can read it here.

But we think there’s reason to be patient here. Liverpool should pay close attention to the Premier League before making any moves for Adeyemi.

Liverpool in for Karim Adeyemi

RB Salzburg. That name should really stand out when looking at Adeyemi because he’s their latest prolific goalscorer.

In fact, their recent record with strikers is just absurd and beyond anything we’ve ever seen.

For a club that lacks the resources to sign guaranteed success stories, they keep finding incredible players anyway. This is the club that had Erling Haaland tearing things up for them, of course.

They sold Haaland to Borussia Dortmund and usually, that would mean a massive decline in goals. But not for Salzburg – they put their faith in Patson Daka to incredible success.

Daka scored 27 goals in 28 games last season. He got another seven assists. That earned him both the top scorer and best player awards in the Austrian Bundesliga.

And that also prompted Leicester City to pay £23m to sign Daka, reportedly ahead of Liverpool.

Haaland has obviously been a magnificent success at Dortmund, while we’re still waiting to see if Daka can replicate his form in the Premier League. And it’s probably worth waiting to see the latter.

Salzburg’s success with strikers is so incredible that we scarcely believe it. Replacing Haaland with a 27-goals-in-a-season striker is ridiculous enough but then replacing that striker with a teenager who can’t stop scoring?

It’s enough to make us wonder if the Salzburg system may just lend itself to strikers. Perhaps that fact that Haaland genuinely is a magnificent talent is a coincidence, rather than a sign that Salzburg just naturally develop world-class players.

After all, Takumi Minamino and Hwang Hee-Chan reached failed to replicate their form elsewhere. Haaland is the shining example of an ex-Salzburg player but not necessarily the best one. No one else has followed his success.

Liverpool can afford to wait until at least January before moving for Adeyemi, of course. We think it’s worth waiting and watching Daka in that time.

If he struggles, perhaps it’s best to hold off on the teenager. If he thrives? We’d get a bid in ASAP.
