Liverpool want Karim Adeyemi, according to reports. So who is the youngster and what’s so interesting about him?
Karim Adeyemi profile
Adeyemi is a 19-year-old German striker who currently plays for RB Salzburg. How he got there is quite unusual, however.
The teenager was on the books at Bayern Munich for two years but a dispute forced him out in 2012. Adeyemi then joined Bavarian regional side SpVgg Unterhaching.
He’d spend six years there, playing in their Under 19 team and actually suffering relegation in 2018. But Adeyemi did enough to catch the eye of RB Salzburg.
The Austrian giants signed the German and sent him out on loan to the team’s feeder club, FC Liefering. The second division side used Adeyemi over three seasons, as he split time between them and Salzburg.
Now 19, Adeyemi is a firm part of the RB Salzburg squad, having truly earned his place over the 20/21 campaign.
So how good is he?
Very. Adeyemi appeared to really click with the senior side at the back end of last season after turning 19.
Over the last 15 games, Adeyemi scored six and assisted five. What makes that even more impressive is that he only actually started seven of those games.
On top of that, he wasn’t the club’s primary goalscorer and played behind the phenomenal Patson Daka. Now, though, Adeyemi is the main man up top after Daka joined Leicester City.
And that’s proven to be a wonderful move. Adeyemi has six goals and an assist in six games to start this Bundesliga season. He also scored in a Champions League qualifier against Brondby.
His form has been so good, in fact, that Adeyemi made his debut for the German national team this week. He’s the first post-war player based in Austria to play for Germany.
And he scored, of course, in a 6-0 win over Armenia. Things just keep getting better and better.
And Liverpool want him?
That’s what Bild claim. Though, Barcelona want him as well, while Bayern Munich would quite like the teenager back.
Adeyemi really does look like a potential star and Salzburg’s ridiculous ability to develop goalscorers appears to be in effect once again. They got the most out of both Daka and Erling Haaland, of course.
We don’t know what the teenager would cost but Liverpool supposedly have their eyes on him. He’s definitely one to watch this season, then.
