Liverpool boast a hoard of talented footballers. As such most of the first team is called up for international duty every few weeks. One of our international stars has laid down some lofty plans. Trent Alexander-Arnold has said he wants the England captaincy.
Trent England heartbreak
Last season we saw the Reds utterly fall apart.
Jürgen Klopp’s side went on a record breaking losing streak at home due to a record breaking injury crisis.
The whole team suffered with Trent Alexander-Arnold being snubbed by England in the Spring.
Being left out of the Three Lions squad turned the Scouser’s season around and he hit some of his best form thereafter.
His scintillating performances earned him a call up to the Euro 2020 squad but heartbreakingly he missed out due to an injury picked up in the dying minutes of the final warm up game.
Alexander-Arnold wants England captaincy
The Scouser isn’t content with just being back in the squad.
In fact, he’s been wholly unsatisfied with his performances for his country.
In quotes carried by The Mirror the Liverpool star has described his Three Lions career as ‘mediocre’ but outlined some lofty ambitions:
“I’ve said before my target is to one day captain England and that’s not changed at all.
“That’s something I believe I can achieve if I work hard enough.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool have produced plenty of England’s best.
The Scouser in our team is simply the latest in a long line.
If he continues to perform at his current standard at club level, if he continues to grow as a player, then there is no reason why he can’t captain his country.
