Considering how few signings Liverpool made this summer, it appears that 2022 could be a big one for the club.
We expect to see a big rebuild next year, with many of the Reds’ current stars starting to age.
Here, we will highlight three young players that got moves in the most recent window that could impress at their new clubs and earn a switch to Anfield next summer.
While many youngsters like Kamaldeen Sulemana and Myron Boadu would also fit into this category, we have spoken about them before.
Here, we have three players that the majority of fans will never have heard of. However, we believe that they will become household names in the near future.
Mohamed Daramy
After missing out on signing Sulemana to Rennes, Ajax went for another top talent from the Danish Superliga in Copenhagen’s Mohamed Daramy.
Daramy scored four goals in 11 games for Copenhagen before his move to Ajax went through last month. In 2020/21, the tricky winger scored five goals in 28 Superliga matches.
The Eredivisie giants know a talented winger when they see one. They signed Daramy in a deal that could be worth over £11m.
Still just 19, we expect the Dane to establish himself in Holland and set himself up for a huge move to a top club in the next year or two.
Considering his similar playing style, he could be the perfect replacement for Sadio Mane on Merseyside. Liverpool will have to start thinking about who will succeed the current front three in 2022 after failing to do so this summer.
Daramy could become an elite forward.
Aster Vranckx
Next up, we have 18-year-old central midfielder Aster Vranckx. He swapped Belgian side Mechelen for Wolfsburg this summer in a deal that was agreed last December.
The fact that he made his Belgian first division debut in the middle of the park having only just turned 17 is a sign of how talented he is.
Standing at 6’0″ tall and incredibly two-footed, there is lots to like about the Belgian youth international.
He can play literally anywhere in midfield. Possibly at his best in the No 6 role, Vranckx still managed four goals and two assists in 29 league games (17 starts) last term.
Now that he has moved to the Bundesliga, Jurgen Klopp will likely be keeping a close eye on the teen.
We could have a long-term Fabinho replacement on our hands.
Amadou Onana
The final player that we will talk about is another Belgian centre-midfielder in Amadou Onana. He sprang to our attention having been snapped up by Lille this summer.
Les Dogues are one of Europe’s best recruiters, and when we looked into the ex-Hamburg midfielder we saw exactly why they wanted him.
Onana turned 20-years-old this month and is 6’4″ tall. He played 25 Bundesliga 2 games last season, scoring twice.
Because of his height, it is easy to compare the Belgian u21 captain to the likes of Yaya Toure and Nemanja Matic. We can see his career following a similar path – play defensive-minded in the early years before growing into his body and using it to become a battering ram when running forward.
Onana has all the physical attributes that Jurgen Klopp loves in midfield. If he can develop his already impressive technique in France, he will go far.
Liverpool will surely be after a midfielder in 2022, so could he impress enough this season to make it him?
