Virgil van Dijk absence

Last October the worst nightmare of Kopites all over the world became a reality.

In the Merseyside Derby Jordan Pickford recklessly lunged at Virgil van Dijk at knee height.

The Dutch defender limped off and the goalkeeper somehow stayed on the pitch.

We learned a day later that the centre back was out for the season.

He was joined on the sidelines by every other senior centre back and the Reds’ season predictably imploded.

Thankfully the iconic number four is back in the starting lineup and once again dominating games.

Virgil van Dijk v Norway

This week the towering defender returned to international duty.

Virgil van Dijk faced off against Norway, captaining the Netherlands once again.

The Dutch went a goal down when Erling Haaland tucked away in the 19th minute.

Virgil has plenty of reason to be angry about the goal with the striker allowed in due to a Dutch defender being about five yards behind the rest of the defence after a set piece was cleared.

The scores were levelled by Davy Klaassen when he tucked away a fine cross from Gini Wijnaldum.

Twitter reaction

Virgil van Dijk has come in for high praise from fans after his commanding display at the back.
