Why Liverpool need a midfielder

If you could sum up last season for Liverpool in one word it would be injuries.

The Reds were rocked by a series of high profile absences with Jürgen Klopp forced to rummage within the side to figure out solutions.

This summer we lost Gini Wijnaldum on a free transfer to PSG.

The Dutchman played nigh on every game for the Reds during his five-year stay at Anfield.

This summer the Reds decided against signing a replacement for the midfielder.

The lowdown on Scotland's THREE men hunting first caps

Given what happened when we didn’t replace Dejan Lovren last year plenty of Kopites have questioned the wisdom of not replacing our most reliable midfielder.

Nobody played more minutes than Gini, that sort of consistency needs to be replaced.

Liverpool considered James Ward-Prowse

The Reds didn’t sign a midfielder over the summer.

However, they seemingly had targets in mind.

According to Goal, Liverpool considered a move for James Ward-Prowse.

The Southampton skipper signed a new deal with the Saints in August.

His addition would’ve been a surprise move for a number of reasons.

Primarily because we doubt that Southampton would fancy selling us another of their star players.

Furthermore, he would’ve cost a bomb. The Reds don’t exactly have that kind of money to be throwing around at the moment.

Twitter reaction

Kopites are frustrated with the lack of movement whilst others believe JWP would’ve been an ideal signing.
