There’s a chase heating up for Erling Haaland. It’s one Liverpool can use next summer to get what they need.
Teams are starting to line up for the Erling Haaland chase. That’s according to ESPN, certainly.
They claim Manchester United are prioritising the Norwegian, as are Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. There’s an awful lot of money involved there.
And there will have to be. Some of the figures around Haaland are truly incredible, making his £64m release clause look quite standard.
Per Bild, the demands for Haaland this summer featured over £40m per year in wages and £34m to agent Mino Raiola. That’s on top of a massive non-release clause transfer fee.
We can reasonably assume, then, that the release clause could actually drive some of those numbers up. You can imagine Raiola wants a larger fee if it’s not going to Borussia Dortmund.
We’d love for Liverpool to get involved, of course, but they almost certainly won’t. These figures are pretty ridiculous for any footballer, let alone one who hasn’t actually won much yet.
Instead, this could offer the right kind of distraction to land a decent deal elsewhere.
Liverpool can use Erling Haaland chase
If all of those mega-rich clubs are looking at Haaland – and possibly Mbappe – it does open the door for Liverpool to look elsewhere. Other strikers will be on the market and competition for them may be very light to start with.
One we’ve had our eyes on is Alexander Isak. We think he could be an ideal fit for Liverpool, while he’s also still very young – he turns 22 later this month.
And with 33 goals over the last two years, we think Isak could be a wonderful long-term addition for Liverpool. The Reds should have a chance to sign him as potential rivals look elsewhere.
Noticias de Gipuzkoa claims Liverpool have had eyes on him. We suggest they keep them there – Isak could be their star signing next summer.
