Gini Wijnaldum gap

This summer saw Gini Wijnaldum leave Liverpool, bringing to an end a five-year stint at Anfield.

The Dutchman was a pivotal part of the Reds’ success under Jürgen Klopp.

He played more minutes for the German than any other player since the boss took over.

Rarely missing a Premier League game, he was an ultra-reliable presence in the middle.

Even though the midfield looks stacked with options Kopites are nervous about the injury records of the likes of Naby Keita. We’re a couple of injuries away from being stretched thin.

7 Greatest Football Substitutions Of All Time

Ian Wright on Liverpool and Yves Bissouma

One Premier League midfielder appears head and shoulders above the rest in terms of suitability.

Liverpool have been persistently linked with Yves Bissouma at Brighton.

The dynamic box-to-box Mali midfielder seems the ideal replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

Ian Wright has urged Liverpool to sign Bissouma, telling the Wrighty’s House show:

“Yves Bissouma at Brighton for me, he’s sensational Ryan. You watch him this week and his numbers, he had eight ball recoveries, two take-ons, five out of six tackles, five interceptions. Watch his highlights, he’s an exceptional six, an exceptional eight and an exceptional 10. He does all of those roles

“He is absolutely brilliant. I feel he is tailor-made for Liverpool.”

What RTK has to say

We couldn’t agree more.

Bissouma is a powerhouse in the middle of the park.

He brings everything Gini brought but with an added ball carrying ability.

Though it is impossible to tell whether Jürgen Klopp would be keen to hammer that adventurous streak out of him.

What is clear, though, is that Bissouma is perfect for Liverpool.

He has the athleticism, vision and press-resistance to slot right into a Klopp midfield.
