Liverpool fans are crying out for midfield reinforcements. The Reds lost a key player this summer and we’re yet to replace him. One man has been repeatedly touted as a potential buy but that dream may be over. Reports in Spain have claimed Manchester United are close to signing Saul ahead of Liverpool.
Liverpool midfield situation
This summer Gini Wijnaldum left Liverpool after a five-year stay at the club.
The Dutchman was out of contract and joined PSG on a free transfer.
Despite the midfielder playing more minutes than any other player during the Jürgen Klopp reign the Reds have decided against signing a replacement thus far.
The argument has been made that we are well stocked with options in the middle.
However, it would be foolish to rely on the long term fitness of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jordan Henderson.
Manchester United close to Saul deal ahead of Liverpool
One player who has persistently been linked with Liverpool is Saul.
AS recently claimed the Reds had a £34m offer ready but their North West rivals stole ahead.
AS, as cited by The Mirror, has now reported that the midfielder’s departure is imminent.
The outlet has stated that Manchester United hold the most interest though Chelsea could be in the lead.
What RTK has to say
Given United’s struggles at the weekend, particularly in the middle of the park, we could well see the Red Devils act fast to bring the Spaniard in.
It’s time for Michael Edwards to move on, we can’t match the financial might of United and Chelsea.
The two clubs can outdo us massively when it comes to wages, we have a strict structure in place.
Perhaps it’s time to revisit Yves Bissouma?
