Liverpool are a sell-to-buy club. The Reds have operated on this tight budget ever since FSG came in. Whilst the strategy is frustrating at times it has helped take us from the brink of administration to posting record profits. We’ve made another sale this week. Twitter has reacted to Liverpool selling Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon.
Summer sales thus far
The Reds have been hard at work moving on a number of fringe players this summer.
Marko Grujic’s time with the club has come to an end, the Serbian midfielder has joined Porto following a successful loan spell last season.
In addition we’ve seen the departure of academy graduate Harry Wilson, the Welshman signed for Fulham in the Championship.
Smaller fees have been raked in for Taiwo Awoniyi and Liam Millar who have joined Union Berlin and Basel respectively.
Liverpool sell Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon
This summer has also seen the departure of one of the club’s most decorated players.
Liverpool have confirmed the sale of Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon.
The Swiss international has joined the Ligue 1 side in a deal worth up to £9.5m.
The French side allegedly offered £4m initially but Michael Edwards managed to more than double the fee.
According to The Athletic the Reds aren’t planning on replacing the 29-year-old given the emergence of Harvey Elliott and the potential of Kaide Gordon.
Twitter reacts to news
Plenty of Kopites have wished the midfielder well whilst others are annoyed about the lack of incoming transfers despite the abundance of sales.
