Liverpool are joint top of the Premier League. The Reds have two wins for two and are tied with Chelsea on goal difference and goals scored. This weekend saw an impressive performance from our skipper. Garth Crooks can’t believe rumours that Jordan Henderson could’ve been on his way out of Liverpool.
Jordan Henderson contract issues
In mid-July news broke which sent Kopites into meltdown.
The Athletic reported that talks over a new contract for Jordan Henderson had stalled.
The skipper and the club were at an impasse and clubs around Europe were said to be taking notice.
According to the report Atletico Madrid and PSG were keen on the Reds’ captain should he become available.
However, since then we’ve seen numerous reports that Hendo is close to agreeing an extension.
Garth Crooks on Jordan Henderson
This weekend the skipper put in an exceptional performance.
Our leader returned to the starting lineup as Liverpool beat Burnley comfortably at home.
Garth Crooks selected Jordan Henderson in the BBC Team of the Week, the pundit wrote of Hendo:
“Have Liverpool lost their mind? They have allowed Georginio Wijnaldum to leave Anfield and surely they can’t be contemplating the same thing happening with Henderson.
“The Liverpool captain was back in the side against Burnley and dictating play in the middle of the park like Andre Previn used to conduct the London Symphony Orchestra. Henderson was at his commanding best.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool simply cannot let Hendo go.
He is indispensable to the side. His leadership is invaluable.
Furthermore, as Garth Crooks points out, we can’t lose him and Gini Wijnaldum in the same summer.
Thankfully it looks as though the captain’s stay is set to be extended for a few more years, he’ll likely retire at Anfield.
