A transfer that could take Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon is at risk, according to reports. The Liverpool playmaker is apparently up for sale.
This comes from Le Progres in France. They claim there is a ‘significant’ problem with the proposed Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon deal.
The report claims negotiations are underway between Liverpool are Lyon. They’re not progressing very far, however, as there is a vast gap between the valuations.
That does fall in line with recent reports. Sky Sports, for instance, claim Liverpool want at least £12m for Shaqiri.
But journalist Neil Jones recently told Redmen TV that Lyon had offered around £4m. That was considered ‘ridiculous’ at Anfield – and rightfully so.
So while the likes of L’Equipe claim Shaqiri has agreed terms with Lyon, there appears to be a fundamental problem here. Unless one of the clubs change their stance, this won’t happen.
Though according to Le Progres’s report, Lyon believe the imminent end to the transfer window could force Liverpool’s hand.
Shaqiri to Lyon could be off
We had hoped there was a way Liverpool got their money here. Emerson Palmieri’s move to Lyon seemed ready to trigger a transfer chain.
That should see Lyon end up with enough money to buy Shaqiri. It sounds, however, as though they don’t intend on raising their valuation even with more cash in their pocket.
And they’re right – that could force Liverpool’s hand. The Reds won’t want to be stuck in a situation where Shaqiri remains on the books doing nothing.
At the same time, they won’t want to settle for £4m. We definitely believe they could get £4m of value in playing Shaqiri this season, if it came to that.
But it really doesn’t look likely that Liverpool get all £12m. If this transfer happens at all, it’s going to be at a discount price.
