Liverpool fans have been crying out for investment this summer. The Reds are short of numbers in the final third, we’re an injury or two away from disaster. Here’s our take on reports that Liverpool are prepared to bid for Ismaila Sarr.
Who is Ismaila Sarr?
23-year-old winger Ismaila Sarr plays on the right for Watford.
The Senegal forward has been linked with the Reds for some time.
Last term he tore the second tier apart, netting 13 goals and bagging seven Man of the Match awards in the Championship.
He’s started this season strongly, netting on the opening day against Aston Villa.
Noted for his dribbling and finishing ability he also possesses pace to burn.
Playing for the national team alongside Sadio Mane, the Reds’ winger famously told Troy Deeney to ‘take care’ of Sarr.
Liverpool prepared to bid for Ismaila Sarr
According to Transfer Market Web, the Reds are still keen on the Watford star.
The outlet has claimed Liverpool are prepared to pay £40m for Ismaila Sarr this summer.
The report goes on to state that Sarr has asked for permission to leave Watford this summer amid the Reds’ alleged interest.
First off: we can’t vouch for the veracity of the source here.
This appears to be an old story being dragged up again and needlessly so.
Liverpool signing Sarr would make very little sense for two reasons: money and availability.
The Reds didn’t have the money to pay for Donyell Malen at a much lower fee.
Furthermore, with the African Cup of Nations coming up this season it would be daft to sign a player we’re going to lose for a key run of fixtures.
We’re already set to lose Sadio Mane and Mo Salah for the tournament, if we sign another forward we need to be sure we won’t also lose them to the AFCON.
