Liverpool are in need of reinforcements. No matter how much the boss may tell us he’s happy with the squad depth we can trace the tracks of his tears. The Reds have been persistently linked with a Ligue 1 midfielder over the summer. However, any Liverpool move for Renato Sanches is off the table now with the midfielder set to undergo knee surgery.
Liverpool and Renato Sanches
All summer and all the way back into January we’ve seen Liverpool linked with Renato Sanches.
Mundo Deportivo recently claimed Liverpool were the most likely destination for the one time European Golden Boy.
The outlet stated that the Reds would beat Barcelona to the player’s signature due to Barcelona’s financial worries.
£34m was quoted as the price that Michael Edwards would have to pay for the Lille midfielder.
Renato Sanches surgery
It looks as though the 23-year-old won’t be going anywhere any time soon.
L’Equipe has reported that the midfielder is set to undergo knee surgery in the near future.
The Portugal star had apparently been suffering from knee discomfort and will now have to have an operation to repair his meniscus.
The surgery and rehab will allegedly keep him out until September at the earliest.
What RTK has to say
We are at the point where even players linked with us are getting injured.
The Reds may not reinforce the midfield this summer with Harvey Elliott having proven himself over pre-season.
However, the front three is still an area of concern with a lack of depth needing addressing.
