Liverpool contract flurry could be key to signing Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool fans want a striker signed. The Reds are short of depth in the final third, this lack of depth means a lack of rotation and competition. Plenty of Kopites have one Frenchman in mind as the solution. The Reds tying key players down to new contracts could be vital to Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappe.

Liverpool new contract flurry

This summer has seen the Reds make just one signing.

Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig before the window opened and since then we’ve only seen player sales.

However, the Reds have still done some important business.

Liverpool have handed out new contracts to key players.

Alisson Becker has signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2027.

Meanwhile Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold have penned extensions until 2026.

In addition Virgil van Dijk has signed a new deal which expires in 2025 and Jordan Henderson is set to sign a three year extension.

Key to Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappe

In January one of the best players in world football will be able to negotiate a free transfer, a player Neymar once described as a ‘phenomenon’.

Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappe has been made easier by the Reds’ flurry of new contracts.

This is because Michael Edwards will have to offer Mbappe a sizeable paypacket if he is to convince him to move to Anfield.

If the Reds brought in the Frenchman on a massive salary before tying our key players down to long-term contracts then negotiations with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold could have been more complicated.

Furthermore, Edwards can offer Mbappe assurances that he will be playing with world class players, he would arrive knowing that Virgil van Dijk will be there for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully this contract flurry is not just about keeping our best players but can also help us bring in the best players.
