Liverpool’s season got off to a good start this weekend with a win over Norwich City. Despite the season already being underway there’s still transfer business to be done. Liverpool could sell Neco Williams with his absence from the squad to face Norwich a possible hint.
Neco Williams this summer
At the start of the transfer window news emerged that Neco Williams was pushing for a move away.
The Athletic reported that the 14-cap Welshman wants first team football and can’t see himself getting that at Anfield due to the age and prowess of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
At the time the Reds were said to be open to selling him, although reluctantly at a price of £10m.
However, since then The Athletic has claimed the 20-year-old is likely to stay put.
Liverpool beat Norwich
The Reds cruised to victory in their opening fixture of the season.
Diogo Jota scored the opener after a fortunate touch through from Mo Salah.
It was Roberto Firmino with the second following another – more deliberate – assist from Mo Salah.
The Egyptian King scored his own with 15 minutes left on the clock, curling one in from the edge of the box.
Neco Williams teamsheet hint
The win over Norwich gave us three points and a possible hint at the Reds’ transfer plans.
Neco Williams wasn’t included in the matchday squad and there were no reports of injury.
Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate were both named on the bench, meaning that the England defender would’ve been the one to fill in had Trent needed to go off.
The absence of Neco from the squad could be a hint that he could be on his way after all.
Why else would we leave him out whilst Ben Woodburn makes the bench?
