Report: Liverpool unlikely to make new signings this summer

Liverpool are unlikely to make any more new signings this summer, according to reports.

The Reds have added just Ibrahima Konate to the side that finished third in the Premier League last season.

Many thought that they would have signed one or two more players heading into 2021/22.

Many fans believed that Gini Wijnaldum needed to be replaced, while extra competition for the front three was also being discussed.

However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool’s transfer business may be complete.

Senior club sources have seemingly claimed that further incomings are unlikely at this stage.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be very happy with his current squad.

Yet this could change if Liverpool manage to sell some players in the next few weeks.

Despite this report, we would not be surprised if Liverpool do make another signing or two.

This may be a case of the club keeping their cards close to their chest. If they make it known that they are desperate for new additions, then negotiations will become more difficult.

But if the word is that Liverpool are not stressing over signings, then clubs may bite at a “take it or leave it” offer.

We saw something very similar last summer. Reputable sources claimed that Liverpool were done for the summer, then Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota were signed out of the blue.

We do believe that not bringing in one more player could hinder the team next season.

But that is really only if the Reds suffer a few injuries. If everyone stays fit, these new signings may not be needed at all.

It is clear that outgoings are needed before new men can come in. Klopp said as much himself.

Xherdan Shaqiri looks to be on his way out. If other clubs get desperate, they may make a big offer for a Divock Origi or Taki Minamino, who would simply have to be replaced.

So, we do not doubt that senior Liverpool sources have told The Athletic that they are done for the summer. But we do doubt that they were telling the whole truth.
