Liverpool fans have had a mixed reaction to the latest transfer news that has come out of the club today.
According to The Athletic, the Reds are “unlikely” to sign more new players this summer.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be happy with his squad and is not demanding new additions.
The club are also at their quota of non-homegrown players allowed in the squad.
Despite being heavily linked to a whole host of midfielders and attackers, it now appears that nobody will be signed after all.
Of course, they have already signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig to fill the gap at centre-back.
Yet many believed that a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum was needed.
The Dutchman was Liverpool’s most-used midfielder last season but has now left for PSG. Considering how many minutes he played throughout his Anfield career, it seemed obvious that someone new would come in in his position.
Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino both had poor seasons in 2020/21. Due to their age, some fans and pundits believe that they may not recover their form next season.
So, it seemed likely that Liverpool were going to go and buy a forward of some description this summer.
Yet these latest reports mean that there is some doubt over whether the club will get the players that they need.
Of course, this could still change. If some fringe players like Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi move on, then we would still expect signings to be made.
There is also the possibility that the club are keeping their cards close to their chest. They probably don’t want the whole world knowing that they are desperate for new players.
How did Liverpool fans react to this transfer news?
As expected, Liverpool fans are not very happy with this development.
Kopites have seen Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all make huge attacking additions this summer.
When all your rivals are out spending the big bucks on new players, it can of course be frustrating when your club does not.
And people actually live in this delusion we will win the league. Everyone has every right to laugh at us— 🤷🏼♀️ (@ChampionsAnchee) August 13, 2021
Why are we so tight when it comes to incomings? Are we doing something wrong? Other teams are spending big money after the pandemic. If we need to not register Karius and other players that never get a look in so be it imo. We can't not strenghten again. We will be left behind.— Smitla (@SMiTLA) August 13, 2021
The quicker FSG sell up the better the excuses just keep coming, this has not affected City or Chelsea. Hold on, ahh if you have money to spend this rule doesn't matter but when you are skint like FSG it does matter. I see.— LOATH FSG (@DavidVaughan5) August 13, 2021
I'll wait until the end of the transfer window but it just seems that FSG are using non homegrown as another excuse (there's one every year) what's stopping us sign under 21's or homegrown players?— Liam Williams (@LiamWill1984) August 13, 2021
city chelsea or united would just let players go for free to make space or stick them in the reserves, we just find excuses "next summer is the big one" rinse and repeat— Christian Cullen (@ChristyCLFC) August 13, 2021
Some fans are taking a more positive view:
If it's not official from the club, it's guesswork. The club has played everything so close to their chests, and if Shaqiri goes (which would free up a non-homegrown slot btw!) I could see us make a signing out of nowhere similar to the Fabinho/Jota deals— Jamie (@jamiegl_bs) August 13, 2021
New signings coming just wait..i Don't believe what James say..— Muk_am ⚠️ (@Mukam73844499) August 13, 2021
