Last season was a ridiculously tough one for Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool. The Reds faced an unprecedented injury crisis. Everyone was injured at one point or another. Reinforcements came and one went. According to Constantin Eckner, former Liverpool defender Ozan Kabak could be available on a free. Twitter has reacted to the news.
Liverpool defensive timeline
Last season the Reds sold Dejan Lovren to Zenit.
We decided not to replace the Croatian centre back, a move seen as a gamble.
The gamble backfired within weeks. Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season with Joe Gomez suffering the same fate soon afterwards.
Injury after injury hit the centre back role with a ridiculous amount of partnerships used.
In the winter window we brought in Ben Davies from Preston North End and Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke.
Since then Kabak has headed back to Germany and the Reds have signed Ibrahima Konate.
Ex Liverpool defender Ozan Kabak available for free
Whilst the Reds have passed up every opportunity to make the Kabak move permanent things may have changed.
Michael Edwards could soon be presented with an opportunity he can’t refuse.
Speaking to the Blood Red Podcast, Bundesliga expert Constantin Eckner reported that the situation at Schalke is so dire that they may need to let the 21-year-old go for free just to get him off the wage bill:
“Schalke might even terminate [Kabak’s] contract before the end of August so he has time to find a new club.”
This could prove tempting for the Reds, Jürgen Klopp once described the job Ozan Kabak did for Liverpool as ‘absolutely incredible’.
Twitter reaction
Fans have been quick to point out that we should jump at the opportunity with some just hoping the young lad’s future is sorted soon.
