Agents will fly into England to secure a transfer for Saul Niguez, according to reports. Liverpool are in the frame for his signing.
This comes from the Mirror. They claim representatives of Saul Niguez will fly into England in the next few days in hopes of finding a transfer.
The Spaniard has the blessing of Atletico Madrid to move on. In fact, La Liga’s champions will only ask for £40m in order to get a deal done – well below his £125m release clause.
Two teams are supposedly in the frame here. The first, and most likely, is Manchester United. The other? Liverpool.
The old rivals will each try to convince Saul that they’re the club for him before negotiating with Atletico.
Saul Niguez transfer on the cards
It’s very possible that Liverpool simply lack the funds to make this happen. That’s according to Goal, who believe the Reds could be done for the window.
But it’s despite several sales already that have brought in around £30m. It does make you wonder what the plan is here.
There is a clear need for a centre-midfielder, after all. Gini Wijnaldum left on a free transfer this summer, leaving a gap in the squad. Liverpool are yet to fill it.
In fact, there are few suggestions of who they’d even want. Every rumour this summer has come and gone without anything.
There does appear to be a clear issue with this one, though. Journalist Neil Jones believes the current wage structure would be severely disrupted by Saul’s arrival.
That, above all, may put a stop to things. Liverpool will surely attempt to convince Saul to join without that problem – but it might be a reach.
United likely have the upper hand here because of it.
