Trent Alexander-Arnold is in an exclusive club at Liverpool with his new wages, according to reports. The 22-year-old signed a contract on Friday.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is staying at Liverpool – not that we expected anything else. But the Scouser committed his long-term future to the club on Friday as he agreed a new deal.
Liverpool themselves didn’t say how long the new contract was for but the Athletic reports it’s a four-year term. That will take the full-back up to 26 and right into his prime years.
Though, assuming all things go to plan, we imagine he’ll agree a new one before then. After all, Alexander-Arnold only signed a new contract back in January 2019.
Liverpool like to reward players with new deals, especially those at the start of their careers. It’s easy to forget but at just 22, Alexander-Arnold is still only starting out.
So this new contract is more about bumping up his pay-packet and Liverpool showing him what they think he’s worth. And it seems that’s a lot.
Alexander-Arnold agrees to new wages
The Athletic reports that Alexander-Arnold is now on some of the highest wages at the club. He’s now in the top bracket, shared with only a handful of other stars.
They mention Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino as other players at the top – an exclusive club. Though, we do think Thiago might be in there, too. That’s purely speculation on our part, however.
And we’ve got to say, this is entirely deserved for Alexander-Arnold. He’s quite clearly one of the club’s most important players, something he proved with his performances in the final months of the season.
But really, he’d proven it over the last few years. Alexander-Arnold has broken records at right-back, been a part of the Premier League’s best defence, won the biggest trophies, and picked up top individual awards.
He deserves every penny of what he’s getting.
