Thiago Alcantara and Xherdan Shaqiri will be the next players to join Liverpool’s pre-season training camp in Austria.

Liverpoolfc.com have confirmed that both players are due to join the squad today after playing in Euro 2020 with their national teams.

They will begin training on Thursday.

Shaqiri reached the quarter-final with Switzerland, where he was knocked out by Thiago’s Spain.

Spain only played one extra game, though, as they were knocked out by eventual winners Italy in the semi-final.

It was a disappointing tournament for Liverpool’s big signing of last summer, as he did not play as much as he would have liked.

This is probably why he is back at the same time as Shaqiri, who was a key man for his side, despite being away for a few days longer.

With the arrival of the ex-Bayern Munich duo, it leaves just four players yet to rejoin the squad. These are Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Alisson and Roberto Firmino.

A contrasting pre-season for Thiago and Shaqiri

Thiago and Shaqiri will enter the pre-season camp together, as they have been throughout their careers.

However, their time in Austria is likely to be spent very differently.

For Thiago, it is a first pre-season at Liverpool.

He will be hopeful that it will help him progress and build on the excellent form he showed at the end of last season.

But for Shaqiri, it will almost definitely be his last.

The 29-year-old has made no secret of his desire to leave Liverpool this summer in the hope of first-team football.

We doubt that he will be in Tirol for all that long. It only seems a matter of time before he moves on, be it to Lazio or the Bundesliga.

While neither man will be involved in Thursday’s game against Hertha Berlin, Thiago will hope to get minutes into his legs in the remaining friendly games.
