Reported Liverpool target Dusan Vlahovic is said to be close to signing a contract extension at Fiorentina.
This will remove any hope that the Reds have of signing him this summer.
The club are on the lookout for a new forward this transfer window.
Vlahovic had been strongly linked after a phenomenal season in Serie A last term.
However, according to Fiorentina journalist Niccolò Misul, the Serbian will extend his time in Italy, rather than join Liverpool or anyone else.
His current deal will expire in 2023.
His new extension will keep suitors away for another season at least.
It will also probably mean a hefty pay rise for a player that burst onto the scene in 2020/21.
Vlahovic contract removes another option for Liverpool
If Vlahovic does sign this new deal as expected, it will remove another attacking option for Liverpool.
Along with Donyell Malen, the 21-year-old was the most strongly linked forward to the club this summer.
Now that neither of them will be coming to Anfield, it is hard to see who will.
Vlahovic would have been perfect for those fans that want to see Jurgen Klopp move away from the false 9 system that is currently in use.
If Liverpool wanted a young, out-and-out striker, then he would have been perfect. The ex-Partizan striker is already playing at a great level and is only going to get better.
21 goals and three assists in the league was a superb return. It is even better when you consider that he only turned 21 in January.
However, he is not the type of player that would suit Liverpool’s current system, so it is probably not a surprise to see that he is not joining.
Perhaps we will see Vlahovic in Liverpool red somewhere down the line.
