Liverpool are going to have to add depth to the midfield. The Reds have lost a key member of the squad and he’ll need replacing urgently. According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are set to make a bid for Saul which Atletico Madrid will accept.
Gini Wijnaldum void
The Reds have a big hole in the midfield and it needs filling.
Gini Wijnaldum has joined PSG on a free transfer after five years at Anfield.
The Dutchman was one of the Reds most reliable players, he racked up more minutes under Jürgen Klopp than any other player.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita can’t be relied upon to fill this void.
The pair have suffered injury blow after injury blow in recent seasons and Jordan Henderson’s fitness issues are also worsening.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
We simply have to sign a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum or we risk being left shorthanded.
Liverpool to submit acceptable Saul bid
This summer has seen plenty of rumblings about Anfield interest in a La Liga midfielder.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool had a bid for Saul rejected by Saul earlier in the window.
The Reds were said to have offered around £35m for the Spaniard.
Since then Barcelona have been in talks with Atleti about a swap deal which would see Antoine Griezmann head back to the Mattress Makers in exchange for Saul.
Despite these talks the swap deal appears to have gone cold.
As a result, Liverpool could win the race for Saul. According to AS (print edition, July 26, page 7) the Reds are set to bid £41m for the midfielder and Atletico Madrid will accept the offer.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Saul would be a big boost.
The Spaniard has a wealth of first team experience and he knows how to win a league title.
He has the work rate to slot into Jürgen Klopp’s side and his versatility would be a big boost.
The money involved is steep but as ever we have the utmost faith in the judgement of Michael Edwards.
