Liverpool want to sign Pedri but could the Olympics could be in the way

Liverpool are expected to sign a midfielder this summer. The Reds are in need of reinforcements in the middle of the park due to an ageing squad and a key departure. A lack of movement hopefully suggests Liverpool want to sign Pedri but the Olympics could be in the way.

Midfield missing

The Reds midfield is a bit all over the place at the moment.

We have plenty of talent in the squad but half of them are ageing and the other half are constantly injured.

Meanwhile, the one player we could rely on to play every game of every season has left on a free transfer.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are unlikely to assume Gini Wijnaldum’s role in the side with the remaining duo incredibly injury prone.

We need to add another reliable star to the fold.

Liverpool want Pedri

In April we saw The Mirror claim Liverpool want Pedri.

Stunning New Away Shirts For EVERY Premier League Team

The outlet claimed that the Reds had contacted the player’s entourage and Barcelona would want around £70m for their wonderkid midfielder.

Since then Mundo Deportivo, as cited by the Daily Star, has repeated the claims of interest

The 18-year-old was a regular for Barcelona last season and he was undroppable for Spain at the Euros over the summer.

A silky midfielder, some have been hailing him as the next Andres Iniesta due to his dribbling ability and eye for a pass.

Olympic barrier?

Kopites have been crying out for a midfielder and the general murmurings about the press have indicated that a signing in the middle is on the agenda.

However, we’ve seen little movement thus far from the Reds.

This could indicate that their preferred target is currently unavailable, the club like to get their business done as early as possible after all.

Given the persistent links between Liverpool and Pedri we could be intent on the Spanish wonderkid.

However, the Olympics could be proving a barrier.

The 18-year-old is currently competing out in Japan, following a gruelling season and Euro 2020 campaign.

As a result there’s been no opportunity for the Reds to strike a deal for the teenager.

Hopefully we could see some movement once the youngster has returned from the games.
