Liverpool have promised a contract to Franck Kessie, according to reports. The Reds have long-term plans.
This comes from Corriere Dello Sport. They say Liverpool have told Franck Kessie that they’ll pay him £5m per year.
That comes with a condition, however – he has to wait a year. Liverpool want Kessie to tell AC Milan that he won’t sign a new deal and leave for free in 2022.
The Ivorian only has one year left on his current contract. He’d like to remain with Milan but they aren’t meeting his demands.
Those demands, unsurprisingly, are around £5m per year. Liverpool, though, are happy to offer him that – next year.
The Reds want him on a free and will take a chance on getting that done in 2022.
Liverpool make offer to Franck Kessie
Speculation that Liverpool want Kessie is now growing. Though, we should say that it’s all coming out of Italy.
Gazzetta Dello Sport said it before CDS, meaning this isn’t coming from any reliable Liverpool sources. Take it all with a pinch of salt.
But that’s not to say it doesn’t make sense – it does. We wrote recently how Kessie could be an ideal Gini Wijnaldum replacement, while we were singing his praises before the links even showed up.

There’s little doubt, as we see it, that Kessie would be a great signing. Especially on a free transfer.
Liverpool can afford to wait, too. Their first-choice midfield is set, with Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson. With the latter two being 30, though, there’s a chance things change in a year.
Kessie could arrive at the perfect time, then. Not to mention that saving the transfer fee allows Liverpool to focus their resources elsewhere this summer.
But there is the risk – that someone else makes a better contract offer. That’s the chance Liverpool would take with that strategy but honestly, it seems worth it.
Kessie on a free transfer would undoubtedly be a magnificent deal.
