Kostas Tsimikas caught the eye against Mainz on Friday. The Greek left-back is enjoying a good pre-season.
We barely saw Kostas Tsimikas last season. He played just six Premier League minutes, with only 130 more coming in the Champions League.
It was disappointing to see – or not see – as the Greek looks like a good fit. He’s got plenty of energy, is happy to bomb up and down the line, and he seems like a very aggressive player.
Really, Tsimikas feels like an ideal backup for Andy Robertson. We just never really get to see him show his abilities.
Fortunately, pre-season is giving Tsimikas what he needs. He’s played in both friendlies and caught the eye each time.
We wrote after Tuesday’s friendlies that Tsimikas looked like a talent and he showed it again against Mainz. That’s certainly the consensus on Twitter, too.
Fans praise Tsmikas vs Mainz
We like the last take, in particular. Liverpool will have a fantastic squad if their backup roles can all play like Tsimikas.
As we say, it’s not just his ability on the ball that grabs us – it’s his attitude. Tsimikas consistently looks ready for the fight and that’s not an easy trait to find at a club like Liverpool.

Pressure and lack of game time can sap that from a player. Tsimikas, though, seems completely up to the task.
Hopefully, we see more of him next season. Andy Robertson could use a rest from time to time, certainly, and it seems Tsimikas can slot in pretty comfortably.
The ‘like a new signing’ quote is a bit of a cliche these days but given how little Tsimikas played last season, he truly could feel like one. We’re pretty excited about what he can add to the squad.
