Liverpool’s pre-season is well underway with the Reds having played out two mini-games. Jürgen Klopp used the opportunity to get some much needed minutes into the legs of key stars. Kostas Tsimikas impressed against Stuttgart, showing just how important he could be this season.
Liverpool sign Kostas Tsimikas
Last summer the Reds were in the market for a left back.
Jürgen Klopp had no natural cover for Andy Robertson with James Milner having to fill in when necessary.
As a result signing a defender became a priority.
In his first season with the club the Greek wing back’s minutes were limited.
The injury crisis at the back meant that the boss couldn’t afford to rotate out his last standing key defenders.
All in all he clocked just six minutes in the Premier League across two sub appearances.
Kostas Tsimikas v Stuttgart
This week the Reds took on Wacker Innsbruck and Stuttgart in back-to-back 30-minute mini-games.
Kostas Tsimikas started at left back against Stuttgart and he was thoroughly impressive.
His constant running down the wing caused a problem for the opposition whilst he was also defensively sound.
He thoroughly deserved the assist he bagged towards the end of teh game.
The wing back made a clever run in behind which was picked out by a spectacular James Milner pass.
Tsimi squared the ball to give Sadio Mane a tap in.
In just 30 minutes teh Greek defender showed us just what he is capable of.
As long as the rest of the defence remains fit we will see plenty more of Tsimi next season.
Andy Robertson is all action and he can’t maintain that style of play without a rest here and there.
Having Virgil van Dijk and co back in action will allow the boss to bring Tsimikas into the side, maybe he’ll even push Robbo for his place.
