There’s no doubting that Liverpool need to sign a striker this summer. Jürgen Klopp needs an out and out forward to come in, a lethal finisher, not a false nine. Liverpool should move for Odsonne Edouard whilst using Ben Davies to sweeten the deal for Celtic.
Liverpool need a striker
At the moment there is not enough depth or competition up front.
Roberto Firmino has been largely unchallenged as the Reds’ starting striker.
The Brazilian has been a star for us but we have no variety in the squad.
Bobby is an excellent false nine but sometimes we need a poacher, an instinctive finisher.
In essence, we need to relieve the burden on Mo Salah when it comes to goals.
Liverpool should target Odsonne Edouard
The Reds should turn to Scotland for the answer to our problems.
Liverpool need to target Odsonne Edouard at Celtic.
We’ve already written at length about why the Frenchman would be a suitable target.
Last season he scored 16 goals in 26 games in the league, bagging five assists.
The term before he banged in 21 in 27 games, laying on 12 goals for his teammates.
Sign for next to nothing
The Times previously reported that Leicester City had agreed a £15m fee for the striker.
However, since then the Foxes have signed Patson Daka instead.
In February the Reds signed Ben Davies for £1.6m.
We managed to gazump Celtic, with The Mail reporting that the Scottish side are still interested in the defender.
Liverpool could use Ben Davies in a deal for Edouard, reducing the striker’s fee to next to nothing.
Considering how much the Glaswegian side need a centre back and how keen they were on Davies we could knock a hefty sum off their £15m asking price for Edouard by including a defender in the deal.
