Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements this summer. The Reds are a man light in midfield and without competition up front. Despite the need for signings we also need to retain our current key players. According to The Athletic, Liverpool are working on new contracts for at least seven players.
The Reds need to sign a striker this summer.
Jürgen Klopp is without effective backup for Roberto Firmino.
This lack of backup not only means we have to rely on the fitness of the Brazilian but he also has no competition for his place in the side.
Furthermore, the departure of Gini Wijnaldum has left us in need of a midfielder.
The Dutchman played an incredible amount of games for Jürgen Klopp and his reliability will need to be replaced.
Liverpool working on new contracts
Further to bringing in new faces the club are working on tying down some familiar ones.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are working on new contracts for at least seven players.
An emphasis is on those entering the final two years of their deal but a couple others are set to be rewarded for their performances.
The report names Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane as those the Reds want to prevent from ending up with just a year left on their contract.
Whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are set to receive pay rises for their excellent performances.
What RTK has to say
Retaining our top talents is vital.
It would be a statement move by the Reds to make sweeping renewals.
In the past we’ve seen our star players snapped up by the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
That isn’t the case anymore and these contract extensions would prove that.
