With the transfer window in full swing, we have been eyeing up whether there is any potential merry-go-round that could suit Liverpool.
The window is a funny old concept. It is one of the world’s most expensive examples of one big butterfly effect.
What happens at one small club could influence who the biggest side in the world signs.
It is all about players moving around and creating different availabilities.
Who can forget Arsenal signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang thanks to Chelsea in 2018?
The Gunners offloaded the unwanted Olivier Giroud to their London rivals, which allowed them to shift Michy Batshuayi.
And who signed Batshuayi? Borrusia Dortmund, who were then able to allow Aubameyang to move to North London.
We have recently highlighted a potential transfer merry-go-round involving Liverpool that could materialise this summer. It involves, Sassuolo, Juventus, Marko Grujic, Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot.
We are not sure that it will happen, but it is quite the prospect.
So, how could Liverpool use this never-ending roundabout to sign their perceived top midfield target, Renato Sanches?
Right… so how can Liverpool create a transfer merry-go-round to sign Renato?
So, we are going to attempt to come up with a universe in which Liverpool offload an unwanted player and end up Renato Sanches while keeping everyone happy.
With very minimal research, we have come up with the perfect solution.
Porto midfielder Otavio appears to be on the way out of the club.
While links to Liverpool appear to be wide of the mark, he does look likely to go somewhere this summer.
Lille would be an excellent stepping stone for the Brazilian. If they can get his price tag down a bit, they would be the perfect home for him.
They are the French champions after all. Why would he not want to go there?
And who do Porto want to replace him but Marko Grujic, who was on loan at the club last season.
But wait, there’s more.
The Portuguese side have their first pre-season friendly next week against… Lille!
It is the perfect opportunity for the Ligue 1 champions to have a look at Otavio and perhaps even begin negotiations.
So, Grujic goes to Porto, which means that Porto are open to selling Otavio to Lille, who will, in turn, allow Renato to join Liverpool.
It’s that simple!
Each club signs a midfielder that is perfect for their level.
Most importantly for us, Liverpool get their hands on a Gini Wijnaldum replacement and manage to partly fund it by selling unwanted deadwood.
The chances are every move would be a success, so everyone wins.
