Liverpool are going to have to strengthen before the start of the season. The Reds were way off last time out and even though injuries are to blame we can’t rest on our laurels. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have been targeting Renato Sanches for at least five years.
Renato Sanches revival
Back in 2016 Renato Sanches was the next best thing.
The Portuguese midfielder was starring for Benfica as a teenager.
His performances caught the eye of every top team in Europe and he was snapped up by Bayern Munich in a megabucks deal.
Shortly after arriving in Germany he was named European Golden Boy but he failed to kick on in the Bundesliga.
Sanches found himself on loan at Swansea before being sold to Lille.
He’s revived his career at the French side, helping his team to an historic league title last season.
Liverpool history with Renato Sanches
This summer has seen report after report of Liverpool interest in Renato Sanches.
Rudy Galetti has claimed Lille want £34m for their exciting midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool have wanted Sanches for some time, telling Anfield Watch:
“I’m happy that the rumour is back for Renato, as he has always been on the list for Liverpool.
“They have been appreciating him since he was playing with Benfica and then he moved to Bayern before Lille.
“They have always been counting on him and always interested in him.”
What RTK has to say
If Liverpool interest does stretch back to Benfica then we’ve wanted this lad since 2016 at the very least.
Maybe the Reds have finally seen enough to prompt them to take action.
At just 23-years-old he still has plenty of time to realise his almighty potential.
Whatever Mickey Edwards does, it’ll be the right call.
