Liverpool have one of the best sporting directors in the world. The Reds have pulled off some incredible deals with Michael Edwards at the helm of recruitment. If he works his magic this summer Liverpool could secure a huge windfall for the future by signing Ozan Kabak for a minimal fee.
Ozan Kabak loan
Last season every senior centre back at the club was injured.
Virgil van Dijk was sidelined for the duration as early as October.
Joe Gomez wasn’t far behind him and Joel Matip was in and out until he was finally ruled out in January.
The Reds brought Ozan Kabak in on loan to help plug the gaps at the back.
After a shaky start the Turkish centre back kicked on in the latter stage of the season before he too was injured.
He left Anfield having made 13 appearances for the Reds.
Liverpool offered Ozan Kabak
The Reds decided not to take up the option to sign the defender permanently for £18m.
Since then we’ve brought in Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
Whilst the Reds have strengthened a cash strapped Schalke have grown increasingly desperate.
According to The Athletic the Germans have offered Liverpool the chance to sign Kabak for just £8.5m but the Reds have turned them down.
Michael Edwards magic
Kabak is just 21-years-old and he has plenty of time to improve.
He’s only going so cheap now because Schalke are in dire straits financially.
If Michael Edwards can work his magic and get the price even lower then this could be an incredibly lucrative deal for us down the line.
We could snap him up for a bargain fee, loan him out for the season and then reassess.
If there’s still no room for him at Anfield then we could loan him out again or sell him for a profit.
Snapping the centre back up now could secure us a massive windfall in future, it’ll just take some Edwards magic along the way.
