Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder…we hope. The Reds are short of numbers in the middle following the departure of Gini Wijnaldum. Following persistent links, Kevin Phillips has said Liverpool signing Saul would be great business.
Liverpool pursuit of Saul
The Reds are in need of reinforcements in the middle.
Gini Wijnaldum played most Premier League games for the Reds during his five year stay with the club.
As a result we need to sign a replacement for him or we risk being left shorthanded in the middle.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have had a bid of around £34m for Saul rejected.
The Atletico Madrid star is thought to be on the way out of the club having fallen out of favour last term.
Kevin Phillips on Saul
The transfer rumour has Kopites excited, that’s for sure.
Ex-pro Kevin Phillips also believes Liverpool signing Saul would be a strong move.
The former Sunderland forward told Football Insider:
“He could be a great signing and replacement for Wijnaldum. It sounds like they’ve been admirers of his for a long time so they will have done their homework on him.
“He is coming from the champions of Spain as well, let’s not forget. Liverpool will have a lot of the ball next season and he is someone who possesses that little bit of magic.
“I think it could turn out to be a really good replacement if they can get him in for money that’s not ridiculous.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Saul would be a statement.
He would arrive as champion of Spain with Atleti and with an impressive CV.
Furthermore, he has the work rate to be a real asset to Jürgen Klopp’s midfield.
As ever, it looks as though this one just hinges on the finances involved.
