This summer should see Liverpool sign a midfielder. Jürgen Klopp has lost one of his most important players and he’ll need replacing urgently. According to reports in Spain, Liverpool have had a bid for Saul rejected and Barcelona have swooped in with a tempting proposition.
Gini Wijnaldum was at Liverpool for five years.
During this time the Dutchman became a modern day icon of the club.
The midfielder rarely missed a Premier League game, his reliability proving a rare port in the storm when so many of our midfielders suffer from persistent injury issues.
He also popped up with some iconic goals such as his brace against Barcelona in the Champions League comeback.
We need to replace the PSG bound middle man otherwise we risk an injury crisis derailing our season again.
Liverpool bid for Saul rejected
The Reds are allegedly hard at work sourcing a replacement.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool had bid around £34m for Saul.
However, Atletico Madrid have rejected the offer and are holding for closer to £43m.
Meanwhile Barcelona have swooped in with an offer of their own.
The Blaugrana have reportedly offered Antoine Griezmann in exchange in a deal which would see the Frenchman rejoin his former club.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool missing out on Saul wouldn’t be the end of the world given the other targets we’ve been linked with.
Furthermore, we doubt that Barcelona could afford such a deal.
Given their financial turmoil we can’t see them making any further signings for the foreseeable future.
