Liverpool fans will always tell you how important Michael Edwards is to the club. The Reds’ sporting director has pulled off some genius moves during his time as head of recruitment. This summer could see the executive’s masterpiece and it all starts with Liverpool signing Saul.

Liverpool interested in Saul
Liverpool lost Gini Wijnaldum to PSG this summer.
The Reds have been looking for a replacement ever since if you believe the reports.
According to Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Liverpool have bid for Saul Niguez at Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish midfielder has somewhat fallen out of favour at the Mattress Makers and could leave as a result.
The Reds have reportedly offered Atleti £34m for the 26-year-old but the Spaniards are holding out for more.
Saul replacement
According to reports in Italy, Atletico Madrid could sign Luis Alberto this summer.
Gazzetta Dello Sport has claimed that the Spanish midfielder is on the radar of the La Liga outfit but Lazio want around £43m for the playmaker.
If Saul were to leave then we imagine Atleti would step up their pursuit of the Serie A star.
Crucially, Liverpool negotiated a 30% sell-on clause when they sold Alberto to Lazio in 2016.
If Atletico meet the Italian side’s valuation the Reds could rake in around £13m.
Alberto replacement
This is where it gets even better. Proper 4D chess stuff.
According to Tuttomercato, Lazio want to sign Xherdan Shaqiri in the coming weeks.
The Italians may be waiting to cash in on Luis Alberto before they make their move for the Swiss star.
When we connect all of these dots with our tinfoil hats on we can see Michael Edwards’ masterpiece.
What could potentially happen here is extraordinary.
We could sign a world class midfielder, triggering the selling club into buying a player who we have a sell-on-clause with, in turn prompting another club to buy one of our fringe players.
The merry go round could mean Saul would end up costing us a relative pittance.
If this happens then someone build the Michael Edwards’ statue.
