Ben Davies appears set to reject offers this summer, according to reports. The 25-year-old has a request from Jurgen Klopp.
This comes from the Mirror. They claim that Ben Davies has had plenty of offers to leave Liverpool this summer.
Not that it’ll surprise anyone. Davies is yet to play a single minute for Liverpool, despite impressing in the Championship with Preston North End.
Clubs will see a fairly easy opportunity to sign a good player, given Liverpool’s lack of obvious desire to use him. Yet, it appears it won’t be that easy.
Both Celtic and Bournemouth have ‘offered him escape routes’, says the Mirror. Davies will reject them, however, as he believes he can fight for a career with Liverpool.
He received a significant boost to that goal, too. Jurgen Klopp apparently asked him to reject the offers and stay with the club.
It seems Davies might have something of a future here after all.
Ben Davies to reject offers
It’s a bit of a surprise, to say the least. Despite Liverpool’s injury crisis, Davies didn’t play at all last season.
The whole thing only looks more bizarre when you consider the only reason he arrived was to cover that injury crisis. Yet Liverpool never got around to putting him in a game.
Not even a couple of minutes at the end of a fixture to see out a win. Nothing.
So all things considered, Davies is around 7th-choice at centre-back right now. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams are all quite obviously ahead of him.
The latter two might leave on loan or permanently, of course, but that still leaves four senior players ahead of Davies. Is that a role worth keeping him for?
Klopp appears to believe so. We’re not sure we get it but we’ll certainly trust the boss here.
