Liverpool fans will finally get to see Ben Davies soon. The 25-year-old is yet to make any kind of Reds debut.
Ben Davies joined Liverpool all the way back on February 1st – but we haven’t seen him yet. There was a friendly behind closed doors against the youth team but that’s honestly it.
No first-team games at all and we don’t actually know how he fits in. But we’ll find out soon.
Liverpool confirmed that Davies will feature in pre-season and he’s in their squad. The Reds head off to Austria next week where they’ll hold a training camp and compete in some fixtures.
We don’t know the exact dates of the games yet as Liverpool haven’t scheduled any. But they’re coming later this month and Davies will be involved.
Ben Davies in pre-season
We’re excited to see what Davies can offer this summer. Liverpool signed him for a reason, after all, and we’d like to see it.
Though, it’s hard to see how he plays any sort of role whatsoever once competitive football arrives. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams are all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Is there room in the squad for a 7th-choice centre-back? No, of course not. Perhaps both Phillips and Williams depart but even then, Davies isn’t going to get a look-in.
Regardless, we’d just like to actually have him play for Liverpool in front of the cameras. No, it won’t be a competitive game but a friendly debut is still more of Davies than we’ve seen to date.
And who knows? Maybe he’s developed wonderfully well over the last five months and looks like a genuine option. It’s a long shot – a very, very long shot – but there’s always a chance.
And a chance isn’t something Davies has had just yet.
