Liverpool’s pre-season should get underway shortly after the Euros. Although the schedule is currently clear it’s safe to assume there’ll be a few friendlies before the Premier League resumes. We’ve rounded up three Liverpool academy stars to watch in pre-season should they be given a shot:
The Polish Messi they call him.
Liverpool signed Mateusz Musialowski from SMS Lodz last summer.
Since then he’s set the academy alight with his close dribbling and lethal finishing.
He even won the goal of the month award for March for his solo wonder goal against Newcastle United.
The 17-year-old has already trained with the first team and has allegedly impressed senior stars and coaches alike.
Fingers crossed we’ll see him in the cups next season, pre-season should give us an indication.
17-year-old attacking midfielder James Balagizi joined the Reds from Manchester City’s academy.
He’s risen through the ranks as one of the most impressive starlets at the club.
Noted for his dribbling and playmaking ability he is a dominant presence in the middle of the park, often shaking opponents off him with ease.
He netted a superlative hat-trick last season which suggested he’s wasted in the U18s.
Balagizi is another we’re tipping for a cup appearance next season.
Signed from Derby County in January, Wayne Rooney handed him his senior debut and those at County referred to Kaide Gordon as the best 16-year-old in the country.
He has since made his U23s debut at Liverpool, scoring from the bench.
Given that he already has first team experience in the Championship we think we could well see Gordon at pre-season for the Reds.
A versatile and exciting attacking midfielder, there’s no telling just what type of player he’ll become. His talent is such that he could moulded into any forward role.
