Liverpool have plenty to be excited about when it comes to the academy. The Reds youth set up is stacked with exciting talents with the Reds having cherry picked some of brightest youngsters around in recent seasons. James Balagizi is being wasted in the Liverpool U18s and his recent hat-trick is just further evidence.
Who is James Balagizi?
17-year-old attacking midfielder James Balagizi joined the Reds from Manchester City at U11 level.
The teenager is one of the most exciting prospects in the Reds’ academy.
He is the creative heartbeat of Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s U18s, frequently finding his teammates in dangerous areas and carving the opposition open with his dribbling ability.
September 2020 saw the youngster sign his first professional contract with the club, he’s also represented England at U17 level.
James Balagizi hat-trick
This week the Liverpool U18s progressed to the FA Youth Cup quarter finals.
The youngsters were in fine form as they beat Leicester City 5-1.
Max Woltman bagged two goals with James Balagizi netting a hat-trick.
The young midfielder opened the scoring early on before grabbing his final two goals in the closing minutes of the tie.
Step up needed
This isn’t the first time that Balagizi has utterly dominated a game at U18 level, he does so regularly.
The midfielder is more than ready for a step up in class, he’s being wasted in the U18s.
If the change doesn’t come now then we expect him to be promoted over the summer.
Hopefully the teenager will be given a cameo appearance in one of the cups next season, we can’t wait to see him make his first forays into senior football.
