Neymar says Liverpool's Thiago has more technical ability than him

Neymar believes Liverpool’s Thiago is one of five players who may have more technical ability than him. The Brazilian had to think hard.

Neymar recently gave an interview for the Oh My Goal network on Facebook. They asked him a very difficult question, too: “who are five players with more technical ability than you?”.

It’s a particularly tough one as there’s a strong argument that there aren’t any. Neymar is one of the most technically gifted footballers ever, in all honesty.

And to be fair, he does acknowledge that.

“More technical than me?” he asked. “I don’t know if I can answer that! With all the humility in the world, I consider myself one of the most technical players in football today!”

Still, Neymar played along and came up with five.

The first? Lionel Messi. No surprise there – Messi might be the most technically gifted footballer of all time.

Then come some highly-debatable ones: Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Marco Verratti.

All are incredible technical players but more so than Neymar? We’re not sure. Regardless, they’re who the Paris Saint-Germain man went with.

He then realises he’s only actually said four. “I’m missing one, right? More technical than me….Thiago.”

It’s quite an emphatic response as soon as he remembers the Spaniard. And again, while it’s still very debatable that any of the last four can match Neymar, there’s little doubt that Liverpool’s no.6 is a world-class technical talent.

Technical Thiago

We love seeing that recognised by such an elite player. Thiago is regarded incredibly highly in football but his difficult season – combined with his bizarre omissions from the Spain side – have dampened his reputation somewhat.

Still, we’re incredibly excited to see what he can bring next season. Thiago felt up-to-speed with the rest of the Reds by the end of his debut campaign and he should soon return to that star level he was at with Bayern Munich.

We should see Thiago at his technical best in just a few more months.
