Borussia Dortmund are reportedly still interested in signing reported Liverpool target Donyell Malen from PSV this summer.
After selling Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, Dortmund now have the money to spend on new recruits.
As well as RB Leipzig’s Marcel Halstenberg, they want to sign Dutch striker Malen, according to Christian Falk.
Fabrizio Romano has even claimed that they have already opened talks with his agent Mino Raiola.
Dortmund are aware of interest from English clubs, one of whom may be Liverpool.
However, latest reports confirm that this is not the case. The Bundesliga side appear to be very much in the mix for the Netherland forward.
Dortmund not in need of a No 9; Malen may choose Liverpool
While signing for Borussia Dortmund is usually a great move for a player’s career, we are not sure it is right for Malen at the moment.
That is because his best position is as a central striker, not on the right flank.
While Sancho’s departure means that there is space for a right-winger to come in, Erling Haaland is still at the club.
That means that if Malen signs for BVB, he is very unlikely to get much action in his favoured position next season.
Meanwhile, at Liverpool, Roberto Firmino is likely to be in and out of the starting XI in 2021/22.
Malen would likely play numerous games as the No 9, as well as a few minutes here and there off the right.
For this reason, we believe that the 22-year-old may choose Liverpool over Dortmund if he can.
First, though, Liverpool need to catch up to the German side in terms of progressing a deal.
