Yesterday saw England beat Germany at Wembley. The Three Lions booked their place in the quarter finals by winning their first ever Euros knockout game in normal time. Watching the game some Liverpool fans were raving over Leon Goretzka.
England 2-0 Germany
Who would’ve thought it?
England actually beat Germany and even though there wasn’t much of a highlights reel fans will be remembering this game for a long time.
A mostly turgid affair with few chances to speak of for either side it came down to two late goals for Gareth Southgate’s side.
Raheem Sterling netting the first, guiding home Luke Shaw’s ground cross 15 minutes from time.
Then, with just four minutes of normal time remaining, Jack Grealish whipped a ball into an unmarked Harry Kane who stooped to guide a header past Manny Neuer.
Liverpool and Leon Goretzka
Leon Goretzka lined up in the German midfield.
It wasn’t the Bayern Munich star’s greatest game as he struggled to influence the midfield battle.
Despite that, Liverpool fans were chatting about Leon Goretzka during and after the match.
This is because the Reds tried to snap him up in 2018.
Goretzka’s contract at Schalke expired that summer but he elected to join Bayern Munich.
This summer sees the midfielder enter the final year of his contract.
As a result some Kopites think now is the time for us to swoop in for the club’s long term target. Sport1 has confirmed he is talking to English clubs.
Twitter calls for Goretzka move
Plenty of Liverpool fans want Goretzka signed this summer.
