Celtic legend Charlie Nicholas has claimed that Celtic should sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer.
The Bhoys are about to begin a rebuild and have recently appointed Ange Postecoglu as their new manager.
They are likely to make a series of signings in order to try and wrestle the Scottish Premiership back from Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.
Former player Nicholas has recommended that they make Kelleher one of these new recruits.
He even claimed that Liverpool legend and fellow former Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson is a big fan of the Irishman.
He told the Scottish Daily Express (29/06, p57): “Caoimhin Kelleher has already played in the Liverpool first team, he is another one.
“My mate Phil Thompson rates him highly and he’s another who wouldn’t be overly expensive.”
RTK View: Kelleher to Celtic very unlikely
Despite Nicholas’ wishes, we do not believe that Kelleher will leave Liverpool for Celtic.
It is a deal that would make a lot of sense.
Neither Vasilis Barkas nor Scott Bain have nailed down the No 1 shirt at Celtic Park. They clearly need to sign a new goalkeeper.
Kelleher is young and promising, while his nationality would probably make a move to Celtic appealing to him.
However, we cannot see him leaving Anfield this summer as he has only recently signed a new contract.
He looks set to continue as deputy to Alisson between the sticks.
It would make very little sense for Liverpool to award him with a new deal before selling him weeks later.
So, Celtic are going to have to look elsewhere for a new goalkeeper.
