Liverpool are in dire need of a midfielder. Jürgen Klopp is losing one of his most valuable men this summer. The Reds can’t afford not to replace him. Liverpool could be interested in Leon Goretzka again, he should star today in England v Germany.
Liverpool and Leon Goretzka
26-year-old German midfielder Leon Goretzka has been on the Liverpool radar for some time.
In 2018 Liverpool tried to sign the midfielder. His contract was up at Schalke and he was available on a free as a result.
However, the middle man opted to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich instead.
Since then he’s established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe, constantly intercepting the ball and using it well and often popping up with an impressive goal.
Goretzka recently told The Athletic that it was a tough decision turning down Jürgen Klopp, saying:
“They’re a great club, and their development since Kloppo came has been amazing.
“We’re all a little proud of him winning the title. But I took a long time making my decision, and I was 100 percent sure that Bayern was the right move for me.”
Since then Sport1 has claimed that Leon Goretzka is in talks with English clubs.
This is because he is entering the final year of his deal at Bayern Munich and an extension is yet to be agreed.
England v Germany
Today sees the latest edition of a storied fixture.
Let’s face it, they don’t care about it but Old Blighty does.
England v Germany will be played out at Wembley today and potential Liverpool target Leon Goretzka could play a part.
If it wasn’t for the Bayern midfielder the fixture wouldn’t be on at all.
The 26-year-old scored a vital late goal to send Germany through to the round of 16, breaking Hungarian hearts.
Kopites should keep an eye on Goretzka today, if there’s still a lack of movement on his contract at Bayern then he could well be of interest to Jürgen Klopp…again.
