Liverpool expect an offer for Xherdan Shaqiri imminently, according to reports. The Reds have set their price.
This comes from the Liverpool Echo. They claim Liverpool expect an offer soon from Lazio for Xherdan Shaqiri.
They’ve set their asking price, too – £13m. It’s the price they paid for him back in 2018 when signing him from Stoke City.
And the Reds believe Lazio will put a bid in imminently. They expect the Italians will wait until Shaqiri is done with Switzerland at Euro 2020.
Switzerland face Spain on Friday, opening the door for a deal to happen imminently should the Swiss exit the competition.
Liverpool expect Shaqiri offer
This actually backs up a report from TuttoMercatoWeb over the weekend. The Italian outlet claimed Lazio had earmarked Shaqiri as a prime transfer target this summer.
That one says Lazio were expecting things to ‘become concrete’ over the coming weeks. Again, that’s in line with what the Liverpool Echo report.
The only sticking point could be the fee, then. Shaqiri is a 29-year-old and not playing regularly for Liverpool – we imagine Lazio will try and talk the asking price down.
But we can’t see them being successful with that. Liverpool have a history of demanding a price and sticking with it, be it for big-money deals like with Philippe Coutinho or smaller issues like Harry Wilson last summer.
The Reds will almost certainly get their money, if Lazio are truly set on Shaqiri. It sounds as though they are, though, given this is now multiple reports from two countries reporting their intent.
So these will likely be the final few weeks of Shaqiri as a Liverpool player, then. Negotiations need to happen, of course, but we don’t know why he’d reject them.
Lazio can offer him regular football that Liverpool can’t. Harvey Elliott is there to take his place with the Reds and that will ultimately push him out the door.
